Dr. Jayne Wark received her Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Toronto in 1997 and also holds a BFA (Studio) from NSCAD.  She has published numerous articles and exhibition catalogue essays on performance, video and conceptual art and is the author of Radical Gestures:  Feminist Performance Art in North America (McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2006).

Dr. Wark is currently working on a book on the history of conceptual art in Canada, the initial research for which was supported by a Research Fellowship from the National Gallery of Canada in 2005 and a grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.  She is also one of a team of five curators who prepared the exhibition, “Traffic:  Conceptual Art in Canada – 1965-1980,” which is on national tour from 2010-12.

Some of Dr. Wark’s other research on conceptual art in Canada includes “Conceptual Lithography at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design,” Journal of Canadian Art History (Spring 2009) and “Conceptual Art in Canada:  Capitals, Peripheries and Capitalism” in The Visual Arts in Canada:  The Twentieth-Century (Oxford University Press, 2010).

She is married to artist and director/curator Peter Dykhuis and is mother to Claire and Lucy Dykhuis.
