The Public
Lecture Series:
provides
the opportunity for world-renowned artists to visit NSCAD and share
their experience and expertise with students, staff, faculty and the
greater Halifax community;
provides an opportunity to enhance
NSCAD's presence while engaging the public;
enhances academic programs through the enrichment of learning
opportunities by superb, master artists during their visit to NSCAD;
and,
provides an opportunity for the School of Extended Studies
to work together with community partners and agencies in bringing
world-renowned artists to Halifax and communities across Nova Scotia.

Judy Pfaff
Judy Pfaff is a vibrant installation artist who began her career in the 70’s, and as part of her prolific career has received many awards including a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Award (2004); a Bessie (1984); and fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation (1983) and the National Endowment for the Arts (1986). Judy’s work incorporates sculpture, painting, and architecture in her built environments that emphasize how space can expand and collapse. Her work is described as intense, exuberant, sprawling, complex and yet organic. Judy Pfaff lives and works in New
York.

Jackie Sumell
Jackie Sumell is an interdisciplinary artist whose work has taken her around the world. Jackie’s work explores the connectedness between people in their everyday lives.
Although sometimes provocative, her work can generate uncomfortable discussions about personal agendas, motives and intentions that are not dissimilar among everyone. Her work both as an activist and an artist strives to unveil the individual uniqueness to reveal the common connections in the human experience. Known well for The House That Herman Built project, Jackie will be in residence at the Udjadowski Castle in Poland to work on this ongoing project as well as personal work.
